Thoughts On Life and Work

life and work

Hard charging people struggle with the idea of rest, recovery, and rejuvenation.

They end up working 80 hours a week putting out fires, answering emails, solving problems, driving the ball down the field and wonder why their business isn’t progressing.

They work out 7 days a week, sleep 4.5 hours a night and wonder why they aren’t getting stronger.

They sit in front of their computers for countless hours trying to solve a big problem, stressing themselves out… the harder they work, the further away they get from the solution.

The right path forward for many things in life is typically counter-intuitive.

Taking days off from work, from problem solving, from working out to instead sit in peace, focus on your family, call an old friend, may just seem like a waste of time when you have so much to do.

To take time out of their busy day to do those things when so much needs to be done just doesn’t seem right, they feel like we are getting behind.

It is just the opposite, unplugging for periods of time is necessary for all of us.

Fitness - You will have 10x results working out hard with a structured plan 3 days a week and being disciplined with your diet than you will just doing more volume with no plan.

Business - It is impossible to 10X your business by just working harder and answering more emails or building more houses. Progress comes from deep thought, prioritization, and fresh ideas… all things that are hard to come by when you spend your life busy.

Problem Solving - I have found the most difficult problems to work through are never solved by grinding through them. You don’t gain mental clarity from being busy and stressed, you only get more fog.
